Christmas Meme

Since I’ve never done a Meme on my blog I figured a Christmas-themed one would be a good first. Maybe it will get me back into the Christmas spirit because that seemed to leave as quickly as it came on a few weeks ago. So, with Christmas music playing in the background, here we go…

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I love wrapping paper. At the same time there are some really fun gift bags out there. Grant it, pulling a gift out of a bag isn’t nearly as fun as ripping open a present, but sometimes time gets away from me and I resort to bags for others. For those presents I give to people who really mean a lot to me I take the time to wrap.

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Real. I’d rather have no tree at all than an artificial one. I went many years without a Christmas tree right after college and I can go many more if for some reason we can’t get a real one. I think of how disappointing it is walking into a person’s house with an artificial Christmas tree and no pine tree smell.

3. When do you put up the tree?
I’d put it up right after Thanksgiving if I could get my husband to help me. Usually it’s a couple weeks before Christmas on the years we’ve gotten one.

4. When do you take the tree down?
Usually a day or two after New Year’s.

(What happened to #5??)

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
My red Barbie Ferrari. Really, anything Barbie was a great present for me!

7. Hardest person to buy for?
My husband. He usually buys the things he wants throughout the year. And the things on his Christmas list are usually things I know are only going to take up precious closet space in a matter of weeks.

8. Easiest person to buy for?
My three nieces – all under the age of 6. Anything Hannah Montana, High School Musical or brightly colored and noise making will make them happy and drive their parents crazy (my mission as an aunt :))

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
No.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. I’ve always wanted to do a photo Christmas card and get the dogs all dressed up in Santa hats or red and green sweaters but it still hasn’t happened. I buy a box of cards every year and then the time just slips away from me. This year though I’m sending out cards. I’m running out of room in my desk draws with all the cards I have in there from year to year.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I answered this one in the chain e-mail I sent out and realized it’s kind of a crappy questions. Yes, I’ve received some odd presents and continue to year after year from the same people, but maybe in their mind it’s the perfect gift. Probably not, but I’ll be nice and give them the benefit of the doubt this year.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Same with Kim. I have to watch the vintage Rudolph the Red Noised Reindeer every year. I also love the original cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Charlie Brown Christmas. I know they don’t compare to the animation these days, but it was my tradition when I was younger and always will be.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I used to be so good at starting early, but it seems every year I start later and later. As I’ve gotten older I’ve really started hating shopping and being out in the crowds. I’ll have to start the online thing like Kim.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
I love me some Honey Baked Ham!!! And all the baked goods! Oh and one of my aunts makes homemade Almond Rocha every year. That is a box I look forward to all of December! (I could go on and on with the “Oh and” for this question)

16. Lights on the tree?
Absolutely!

17. Favorite Christmas song?
I love most Christmas songs. My favorite album is A Charlie Brown Christmas with Vince Guiraldi. When I was younger my mom always listened to the Elvis Christmas album and it drove me crazy. Now it’s one of my favorites. Probably more because it makes me think of her.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
I’ve done both. When I was in college I went home to Oregon every year and the travel didn’t seem like a hassle. I’d rather be home, but if traveling means I get to see people I love then I travel.

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Only if I sing to myself the beginning of the song 🙂

20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
One on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning.

21. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Screaming kids and rude people in every store. And it’s amazing how people unlearn how to drive in holiday traffic!

22. Favorite ornament theme or color?
No theme. I like using passed down ornaments or ornaments that I bought because they mean something to me. Someday though I’d like to do a majority of knitted ornaments.

23. What do you want for Christmas this year?
My credit cards paid off (wishful thinking). And it’d be really nice to spend Christmas with my family this year rather than my crazy in-laws.

24. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Either. When I was younger we had a very tacky star 🙂 Now hubby and I have a pretty angle.

25. Favorite Christmas dinner?
Honey Baked Ham! And lots of yummy sides dishes. And a wonderful wine to go with everything.

    How fun!

    I didn’t even realize #5 was missing… 🙂 I wonder what that question was.

Yes, hail to the UPS and Fedex men for bringing my shopping to me. I can’t believe how much I hate shopping in person now. Ugh. The crowds just drive me up a wall!
