Forgotten Again

So, way back in April I got the following message from Alison, who is in charge of setting up the sockapalooza rounds:

Hello forgotten sock pals!

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve put you on the list of folks to
get a
“free” pair of socks in this round.  That means that if you signed up
again,
you should get two pairs and if you didn’t sign up this time, you
should
finally get a pair of socks.  Plenty of folks said they were ready to
knit
socks for pals forgotten in the last round, so I have high hopes that
everyone will really get their socks.  Hooray!

Happy knitting,
Alison 🙂

Boy, am I glad I signed up. Otherwise I’d still be eagerly checking the mail box as a “forgotten sock pal”.

Yah, guess what. Didn’t get my second pair of socks. I’m not surprised at all. Now I absolutely love the socks that I did get. But still. What is with people who can’t follow through with things they sign up for??!! I was somewhat jaded after the first round I did last year when I didn’t get anything. Now not getting the makeup socks that were supposed to be coming to me has all but turned me off to ever doing a sock swap again.

I understand things happen and life gets in the way of knitting. Trust me, been there done that. But if you don’t have the common curtousy to send a quick e-mail to someone letting  them know that while you had good intentions, life got in the way and don’t be expecting anything soon, then DON’T SIGN UP FOR SWAPS!!! Unless you know for sure that you can keep up your end of the bargain DON’T SIGN UP FOR SWAPS!!!

Thats just awful. A couple of weeks ago, I checked the database to see if anyone needed a “sock saviour” indeed there was one lady, and to which I promptly commited to. It felt good to be able to help out in this way. I’m truely sorry you didn’t get your socks. I’d love to knit you a pair! My blog is http://www.xanga.com/ladydemetreis

That totally sucks. I been where you are; I actually stopped doing swaps for just this reason and just started back up again after a 2 year hiatus. Guess what, still haven’t received my socks yet! 🙂 Granted, I did just get an email from my pal stating she just finished them and she will email me when they go out.

I hope your savior follows through! I wish there was a way of matching prompt, thoughtful people with the same and letting the slackers deal with each other. Maybe I should start a “No-Slackers Swap”…

I am sorry you were hurt by someone who was not willing to live up to their word. There should be checks and balances to not include individuals who are known not to follow swap rules set up at the beginning of the swap.

I completely agree with you. I was snubbed last year and did receive a pair of make up socks but I was then snubbed again this year!
I can only reinforce your statement: If you can’t commit to a swap, DON’T SIGN UP FOR SWAPS!

Oh no. I’m so sorry it didn’t work out for you. Thankfully the people who punk out are vastly outnumberred by the ones who keep their word.

I feel your pain. This is actually the first swap I have been in that I did not receive anything, so I guess I should feel lucky – lol. Maybe there is still hope of receiving socks.
