Grillin’ & Knittin’

First pictures of the wonderful baby-back ribs and broccoli salad I made the other night for dinner!

The key to ribs is to cook them very slowly at a low heat and don’t put on the BBQ sauce too early, otherwise it burns. While my husband is pretty good with the grill, I am quickly becoming the grill mistress of this household, which seems to be the family tradition on my side of the family. And my favorite thing to grill is ribs 🙂 Especially when ribs go on sale, like during Memorial Day weekend! In addition to the ribs, I made my favorite aunt’s broccoli salad:

It didn’t turn out nearly as good as her’s, but it was the first time I’ve ever attempted it and I know what I’ll adjust the next time I make it. Sorry, but I’m hoping one day she’ll open her own restaurant or some type of food-based company so I’m not giving out her recipes (both the ribs and the salad I learned from her). Hubby was gone over the long weekend so this was his “Welcome Home” meal.

Now on to knitting. Although I don’t have much progress to show off, I have been doing a lot of knitting. I started my Sockapalooza socks last weekend. Here is the Lisa Souza Auga Fresca I choose for her

I love the color and the yarn, but did not love the way the sock started out. I first decided on the pattern Unst from Nancy Bush’s Knitting on the Road book. I’m not sure if it was the pattern, the yarn or just my novice knitting experience, but after spending three days on it, it just wasn’t working for me. So after ripping it out three times, I decided to fall back on my old standby, Broadripples from Knitty. While I haven’t made a lot of progress on it this week (hello, hubby was gone for six whole days; we’ve got some cuddlin’ time to make up on!), it’s going much better than what I started out with.
