Packing vs. Knitting
It’s on…the constant struggle between my knitting and the much needed packing. After finishing my Clapotis I seriously thought about putting my knitting on hold until after we were done moving. I was going to do it until I had a slow day at work and spent 6 of the 8 hours I was at my computer looking at yarn on Esty, and patterns and FO’s on Ravelry. I came home that night and started another pair of socks in some of the Noro Yarn I got in February. At least I didn’t buy any more yarn, although I was very tempted

They are a pair of socks for my hubby and I’m not sure I’m liking the Noro sock yarn. I do love the colors, but it’s so sratchy. It’s hard to imagine these will be at all comfortable. I’m doing another basic sock pattern 1) because it’s for a boy and hubby likes boring old plain socks, and 2) with moving I need something I can pick up for a few minutes (or hours) here and there to do a few rows at a time.
So in this fight between packing and knitting I’d say knitting is winning because I only have two boxes packed so far. Two rather small boxes. Again I wonder how we accumulate so much crap for just the two of us.
Adult Watermelon Punch
My current drink of choice:

One part Bacardi Grand Melon, One part Watermelon Pucker, fill with 7-UP and ice. I go easy on the ice because I don’t like my alcohol watered down too much
Reminds me of a Watermelon Jolly Rancher candy.
It’s Official
We signed paperwork and got keys to our new house today. There were a couple snags and I thought I’d jinxed myself for sure after my previous post. We had an amazing agent and he got everything squared away for us in an unusually short amount of time.
Bring on the cleaning and painting supplies…it’s gonna be a long weekend.
Our New Home
I’ve been so hesitant to post anything about the house we are buying because I didn’t want to jinx anything. After what happened last time I just kept my fingers crossed and my mouth shut (for the most part). Tomorrow we close on the house we finally agreed on. It was a previous rental so it needs a deep cleaning, new carpet and paint before we can move in, but we’re looking forward to making improvements on something that will finally be ours.

I’ve never been so excited to clean a house and do yard work in my life.
There will be a lot more pics to come in the next month!
Finished Clapotis
I finished my Clapotis after the second attempt. I was overly cautious so as to not run out of yarn and the result is a smaller version, but I love it just the same.

Once my weekend company is gone I will block it out to be a little longer. As it is now it wraps around my shoulders and would be beautiful with a shawl pin.
Aren’t the colors georgous!

Oh the Drama!
I used to tell people I come from a crazy family. Yes, we’re crazy, but fun-crazy. My husband’s family is crazy in a whole other sense. We cannot have a family get together with out his mother crying at some point. My sister-in-laws teenage girls have to be smart-ass spoiled bitches at some point. My husband has to piss someone off with a rude comment at some point. Nobody has learned that every single person in their family has drastically different points of views on religion and politics and so that’s always brought up and argued about. And they all wonder why I provide the alcohol at every family function, acting like they never drink but are the ones who drink the majority of it. It’s not because I’m generous and want to share, but because I need it to make it through yet another overly dramatic BBQ/birthday party/dinner etc.
And such was the case last night. My husband’s step-dad and step-brother were in town visiting my mother-in-law. Sound weird that they live in different states and are married?? Oh that’s just the beginning, but I’m not going there today. We invited them and his sister and her boyfriend (free-loader, deadbeat, boytoy or all of the above) and her three (teenage) kids (one whose pregnant - another long story) over for a BBQ. What the hell what I thinking!! I obviously haven’t learned from the past family gatherings. But I did remember to stock up on plenty of wine for myself
I’m not completely clueless.
It all started out good. And in a blink of an eye, it all went bad. And I continued to drink. My mother-in-law doesn’t know how to keep her mouth shut, and can’t accept the fact after 50-some years that others don’t share her points of view on a lot of things. Especially her son, who is not afraid of hurting any ones feelings when it comes to speaking his mind. My sister-in-law and her mother are constantly going at it about the kids. And my mother-in-law’s husband has to constantly get his digs in on how they’re all neurotic. Needless to say, no one lingered around long after dessert, which my mother-in-law took home with her since she brought everything for it.
Amazingly I wasn’t drunk at the end of the evening. But I was in bed by ten. In a million years, I never thought I’d say I miss living near my family. All of them. Because at least when we get mad at each other we just continue pouring the wine until we’re all crying and saying sorry for crap we don’t even remember, just so we’re all happy again. Fun times ![]()
I Think I’m Gonna Finish
The Clapotis is almost done. I’m down to 23 stitches
And I have plenty of yarn left over. I probably could have made it a little longer, but I was not going to chance ripping it out again because who knows when I’d start it over (if ever). I should be finished by this weekend and will finally have pics to post of it
And with the weather we’re having I might actually get to wear it once before packing it up for the summer.
If summer ever gets here…
Hooray for Softball!
Hubby had his first softball game today and baseball/softball is definitely a sign of Spring for me, even if they are predicting snow again this weekend. (Have I mentioned I’m ready for Spring??) I’ve never posted pics of hubby on here, but we’re both out of shapeand he hasn’t played softball in a long time. At least not in the 7 years we’ve been together. He did such a good job. And hello, he was in baseball pants. I love baseball and baseball players and nice fitting pants. I like watching the game too, really I do, but the stretching and running and diving for balls in those pants can be a wonderful distraction
Some people like firefighters, I like me a fine baseball player
His team won! And the buddy he made on the team is the wife of the buddy I made while watching and cheering. I swear he’s a younger version of my hubby. Smart-asses for sure. But they are a married couple, with two dogs, no immediate desire to have kids, both from California, and like to drink wine, or just have drinks in general. Where have these two people been the last two years? Finally some people who aren’t consumed with popping out as many babies as possible and being good, church-going people who think they will go to hell for having even sip of alcohol or letting the F-bomb fly once in awhile.
There are so many people from California up here, I need to find more of them. They are my kind of fun!
What a Tease!
It seems Mother Nature can’t make up her mind on what season she’d like it to be here in Boise. After a few days of nice and warmer (if you call the 60’s warmer) weather, we woke up to a quarter in of snow last Wednesday. Only to have it be in the 70’s by Friday. Then it was nice and warm over the weekend. Today wasn’t as beautiful, but it was still warm. But no, it can’t last. The wind picked up about 6:30 this evening and the predicted high for tomorrow is supposed to be 47. 47 degrees!!! That’s just not right. I painted my toenails all pretty, dug out my flipflops and shorts, got a baseball glove so I can practice with hubby for his softball team only to get my hopes of Spring dashed. Damn you Mother Nature!
Guess I won’t be grilling the steak I pulled out for dinner tomorrow. Looks like it will be a soup night. Off to dig out a scarf for work tomorrow (again!!)
I hope wherever you are you’re having much better weather. Maybe even a Spring. It is the middle of April and all ![]()
